January Meeting, Books, and Website Updates
Books
I added two books to the website. They are "Doyle's Diary" | Diary of Leo Doyle November 1882 - January 1900 and Naturalization Records (Indexes) of Cape Girardeau County, MO, 1813-1928, Volume 1. Click here to go to the book page on the website. They are at the bottom of the page. I have no more books to add, so if there is another book you want added, please bring it up at a meeting or email us your request.
Website Update
The website may not look any different to you. Sometimes I wish I could see the behind the scenes of a movie. Trust me. The behind the scenes of website work is boring and tedious, and often frustrating. I worked 10 hours on the website last weekend to upgrade it from Bootstrap 3.4.1 to 4.4.1. When I did that, it became massively a mess. Bootstrap is the base coding, so any of it that changed may have effected the coding on individual the pages. I then had to find the new coding to make it all work again. I am so glad that is behind me. I've been dreading it for a while and I am very glad.
The Collage pages now have simple new buttons. Most pages look cleaner.
Please remember this useful tool on the website homepage. There is a link to a search feature which includes all .pdf’s on the website, including books and Collages. Try searching for your name of interest and you may be surprised at the results. I know I am surprised when I search. As soon as the rest of the Collages go up, you will find even more results.
January Meeting
Join us for our next meeting on January 23, 2024 at 7 p.m. This is one of our virtual meetings, and the program will be “The Collage of Cape County: An Underappreciated Local Genealogical Resource.”
How many of you who have local ancestors have used our quarterly as a source for your research? The Collage of Cape County has existed since 1980. During that time, hundreds of articles have appeared. Learn about the history of the quarterly, the types of articles it has included, how to access images of the issues, finding the original sources for the information behind the articles, and locating information about your families in the Collage. A number of examples will be included. Also included will be a discussion of how we can improve access to Collage and enhance its visibility.
The program will be presented via Zoom by long-time editor Bill Eddleman. The meeting room opens at 6:30 and the program is at 7. Access information is below:
